Hearing God’s Voice for Others

We are called to have a relationship with God. In the moments when we experience this connection with Him, we hear His voice for ourselves. Jesus did this for thirty years. But in the last three years of His life, He also received words from God for others, with the purpose of making Him visible. Jesus was sent by His Father. In the same way, we, as followers of God, are sent by Jesus to make Him visible. I would like to share two ways here to hear God’s voice for other people:

1) Pray for people in the news.

When I watch the news, I don’t want to be overwhelmed by what the world and the devil are doing. That’s why I have found a method that helps me—and perhaps can help others too. During every news broadcast, I look for one person to pray for. Then I think of a way to encourage or help this person with God’s love (if that is possible).

What does this look like? Recently, I saw a news report on EO where a woman was interviewed. Despite all her hard work, she couldn’t manage to send her daughter to school. This touched me deeply. I began praying for this woman and tried to make contact, which didn’t succeed for the first two weeks. Eventually, I managed—through someone who knew more about her situation—to send money to this woman.

2) Pray for appointments you are going to.

Before going to an appointment, I pray for one person I will meet there. Whether it’s a private appointment, or for work or ministry, it doesn’t matter. I ask God for impressions I can share to encourage the other person. I then share these impressions at the right moment during the meeting.

What does this look like? I was about to meet someone with whom we might start working together in our ministries. Before going to the meeting, I had prayed and (as I sensed) received an impression from God. I wanted to make a specific proposal to this person. When I shared the impression during our meeting, it was so confirming. The proposal came at exactly the right time. We thanked God for His guidance!
