In my work, I get to co-create with Him

In daily life, I, Jennifer Bakermans-Henkel (38), am a creative Christian coach. I lovingly coach Christian creatives—artists, entrepreneurs, performers, singers, filmmakers, photographers… people engaged in creative expression rooted in biblical values.

In my coaching studio, Atelier Agape, I get to unite my three great loves: God, art, and coaching. It’s a space where I can pour out my years of experience as an art teacher, artist, and coach.

After a marriage to an addicted husband, it sadly took a divorce and burnout to begin something entirely new with God. I met with a Christian counselor, and after a few sessions, he recognized that I deeply needed creativity. He handed me brushes and a blank canvas… and something new began.

Creating art—together with God—became my way of communicating with Him during the healing process. I discovered that God was using my scars to create a whole new masterpiece out of my life. Creativity returned! I began singing again and rediscovered my joy in beauty.

I retrained to become a creative coach. The combination of art therapy and coaching felt like a true celebration to me. Yet, during the training, I noticed that many alternative practices were being introduced—Bach flower remedies, chakra colors, tarot cards, and more. To me, these represent creativity rooted in non-biblical sources. On one of those training days, I expressed my longing to God—my desire for His truth about art and creativity. That’s how my coaching practice, Atelier Agape, was born.

And now, every day I get to encounter God through creativity in my work. Before I begin working, God speaks to me—through brushstrokes and pencil lines. In these artistic expressions, I experience a deep connection with Him. I get to co-create with Him! And in my interactions with clients, art helps me experience a heart-to-heart connection with others. Together, we offer the artworks as prayers before God’s throne. It’s truly special—and something I wish everyone could experience!
