Bubbles, paper airplanes, and Lego bricks what do those have to do with listening to God? We read about it in the children’s prayer journal we received from Jongbloed Media. What a fun and beautiful little book it is! Because it fits so well with the vision of (F)Luister Nederland, we’re happy to share a bit about it with you.
Ina: “Together with our 7‑year‑old daughter Yara, we started working through the book. The very next day she asked for it again. She was excited to read from it together! What’s so nice about this book is that it’s not just something to read or listen to—there are also creative and playful activities included.
For example, we began by finding our bubble blower and making the biggest bubbles we could. The bubbles floated up toward the sky, just like our prayers. Yara learned that God hears our prayers even before the bubbles pop. That’s fast! After that, we read a fitting Bible verse. Each day, Yara gets to write down her prayers. These can be prayers for herself, but also for the world around her. We also ask God a question.
It can be quite challenging to be still and listen, but the concrete questions make it easier. In the writing space it even says: ‘When I listened, You said…’ While listening, Yara thought about the bubble and how God hears everything. That’s what makes this book so beautiful: it teaches children that God can speak. Between the daily entries there is also helpful teaching about how we can hear God’s voice.”
P.S. The prayer journal is written by Jasper Knol and is suitable for children ages 6–10.
